The Antithrombin III (AT III) Test is a crucial diagnostic blood test used to measure the level and/or function of Antithrombin III (AT III), a major protein produced by the liver that helps regulate blood clotting.
AT III is the body's primary natural anticoagulant. Its main role is to inhibit key clotting factors, most importantly Thrombin (Factor IIa) and Factor Xa. This inhibition prevents the excessive formation of fibrin, thereby controlling the clotting process.
