The Cystatin C test is a blood test that measures the concentration of the protein Cystatin C. This protein is produced by nearly all nucleated cells in the body at a constant rate and is filtered out of the blood exclusively by the kidneys (specifically the glomeruli).
Because Cystatin C is produced at a steady rate and reabsorbed completely by the kidney tubules, its concentration in the blood is considered a highly sensitive and reliable indicator of Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR), which is the gold standard for measuring kidney function.
At Augmentum Diagnostics, an NABL-accredited lab in Delhi, we prioritize Cystatin C testing as a superior alternative to traditional creatinine-based GFR estimations, particularly in at-risk patient populations.
