The Direct Coombs Test (DCT), also known as the Direct Antiglobulin Test (DAT), is a blood test used to determine if red blood cells (RBCs) have been coated in vivo (inside the body) with antibodies (IgG) or complement proteins (C3).
The coating of RBCs by these immune components tags them for destruction by the spleen and liver, leading to hemolysis (premature RBC destruction) and resulting in hemolytic anemia. The DCT is the primary diagnostic test for immune-mediated hemolytic anemias.
At Augmentum Diagnostics, an NABL-accredited lab in Delhi, we perform the DCT with precision, providing crucial information for diagnosing and managing hemolytic disorders.
