The Hepatitis A IgM Test (Anti-HAV IgM) is the primary blood test used to diagnose a current, active infection of the Hepatitis A virus.
Unlike the IgG test (which checks for past immunity), the IgM antibody is the "first responder" of your immune system. It appears in your blood almost immediately after you get sick (often before symptoms peak) and usually disappears within 3 to 6 months after you recover.
In short: If you are feeling sick right now and suspect Hepatitis A, this is the test you need.
You should book this test immediately if you have symptoms of sudden liver inflammation, especially if you have recently traveled or eaten at a place with a known outbreak.
