The Hepatitis E IgM Test (Anti-HEV IgM) is the primary diagnostic tool used to confirm a current, active infection of the Hepatitis E virus.
While Hepatitis A is the most common foodborne liver virus, Hepatitis E is a close second and is often overlooked. The IgM antibody is the "first responder" your immune system creates when fighting the virus. If this test is positive, it means the virus is attacking your liver right now.
Why is this different? Unlike Hepatitis B or C (spread by blood), Hepatitis E is spread by contaminated water and food. It is often called "Traveler's Hepatitis."
