HIV 1 & 2 ANTIBODY QUANTITATIVE

The HIV 1 & 2 Antibody Qualitative test is a blood test used to detect the presence of antibodies to the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), which causes acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS). This test is qualitative, meaning it can determine if antibodies to HIV are present or absent in a person’s blood. It does not provide information on the amount of virus present or the stage of infection. The test is highly accurate and can detect both HIV-1 and HIV-2, which are the two major strains of HIV that infect humans. The test is often used as an initial screening test for HIV infection, followed by confirmatory testing if the initial test is positive. Testing is recommended for anyone who is at risk of exposure to HIV, such as those who have had unprotected sex, shared needles or had a blood transfusion before 1985. Early diagnosis and treatment of HIV can significantly improve a person’s health outcomes and prevent transmission to others.
