The Protein, Random Urine test, when measured solely as a concentration, is a common and quick screening method for the presence of abnormally high levels of protein in the urine, a condition known as proteinuria.
This test measures the total amount of protein (including albumin and globulins) in a single, non-timed urine sample.
Purpose: To quickly screen for kidney issues. Healthy kidneys effectively filter blood, retaining most proteins; therefore, only trace amounts should be found in the urine.
