A Lipid Profile (or Lipid Panel) is a common blood test that measures the levels of different types of fats, called lipids, in your bloodstream. It is primarily used to assess your risk for cardiovascular diseases, such as heart attack and stroke.
The test generally measures four key components:
Total Cholesterol
LDL Cholesterol (LDL-C)
HDL Cholesterol (HDL-C)
Triglycerides (TGs)
Early detection of high LDL or high Triglycerides allows you and your doctor to make necessary lifestyle changes and start treatment to lower your heart disease risk. Regular screening is highly recommended, especially if you have risk factors like a family history of heart issues, diabetes, high blood pressure, or obesity.
