The Hemoglobin Variant Studies (most commonly performed via Hemoglobin Electrophoresis or HPLC) are specialized blood tests used to identify and quantify the different types of hemoglobin (Hb) present in the red blood cells (RBCs).
Hemoglobin is the protein inside RBCs responsible for carrying oxygen. Abnormalities in the genetic code for this protein can lead to the production of variant hemoglobins (e.g., HbS, HbC, HbE) or to a reduced production of normal hemoglobin (HbA), resulting in diseases called Hemoglobinopathies (like Sickle Cell Disease and Thalassemia).
This test is essential for diagnosing these inherited blood disorders, which are highly prevalent in many parts of the world.
At Augmentum Diagnostics, an NABL-Accredited Lab in Delhi, including our location near Dwarka, we employ advanced techniques like HPLC to ensure precise and accurate identification of all significant Hb variants.
