The Immunofixation Electrophoresis (IFE) - Quantitative Serum Test is a highly specialized laboratory procedure used to identify and characterize specific types of proteins (immunoglobulins and light chains) in the blood serum. It is primarily used to detect the presence of Monoclonal Gammopathies.
A monoclonal gammopathy is a condition where a single clone of plasma cells produces a large, identical quantity of one specific immunoglobulin (M-protein or M-spike). These M-proteins are characteristic markers for conditions such as Multiple Myeloma, Waldenström's Macroglobulinemia, and Monoclonal Gammopathy of Undetermined Significance (MGUS).
The IFE test is the definitive method to confirm and classify these abnormal proteins after a screening test (like Serum Protein Electrophoresis, SPEP) suggests their presence.
At Augmentum Diagnostics, an NABL Accredited Lab in Delhi, including our location near Dwarka, we perform IFE with expertise for precise diagnosis of hematological malignancies and plasma cell disorders.
