The Immunoglobulin M (IgM) Level Test measures the total concentration of IgM antibodies in the blood serum. IgM is the largest and heaviest of the five major classes of antibodies (immunoglobulins) and is structurally a pentamer (five Y-shaped units linked together).
IgM is the first class of antibody produced and secreted by the B-cells during a primary immune response (initial exposure to an antigen, such as a bacterium or virus). It plays a crucial role in early defense, agglutinating (clumping) pathogens and activating the complement system.
Measuring IgM levels is essential for diagnosing acute infections, investigating immune deficiencies, and identifying certain hematological malignancies.
At Augmentum Diagnostics, an NABL Accredited Lab in Delhi, including our location near Dwarka, we provide accurate quantification of immunoglobulins for comprehensive immune assessment.
