The Indirect Antiglobulin Test (IAT), commonly known as the Indirect Coombs Test, is a critical procedure in blood banking used to detect the presence of unattached antibodies (called irregular antibodies or alloantibodies) circulating in a patient’s blood serum or plasma.
These antibodies are not currently bound to the patient's red blood cells (RBCs). If present, these circulating antibodies could potentially react with donor RBCs during a blood transfusion, leading to a serious hemolytic transfusion reaction (HTR).
The IAT is primarily used for antibody screening and cross-matching blood prior to transfusion.
At Augmentum Diagnostics, an NABL Accredited Lab in Delhi, including our location near Dwarka, we perform this test with high precision as part of our rigorous pre-transfusion safety protocols.
